cash flow quadrant

The Cash Flow Quadrant is a financial model developed by Robert T. Kiyosaki

in his book Rich Dad's CASHFLOW Quadrant to categorize how individuals earn income and achieve financial freedom.

It divides earners into four quadrants based on their mindset and income source,

distinguishing between active income (trading time for money) and passive income (making money work for you).

### The Four Quadrants

The model splits income earners into a left side (E and S) and a right side (B and I), with the right side generally associated with greater financial freedom and wealth accumulation.

* **Employee (E)**: Individuals who trade time for a salary. They value job security and benefits but have limited income potential and are dependent on an employer.

* **Self-Employed (S)**: Individuals who own a job or practice (e.g., freelancers, consultants). They have more control but must work harder than employees, and their income stops if they stop working.

* **Business Owner (B)**: Individuals who own a system or business where other people work for them. This allows for leverage and scalability, as income is generated through the labor of others.

* **Investor (I)**: Individuals who use money to make more money through assets like real estate, stocks, or businesses. This quadrant is considered the primary path to true financial independence, as wealth grows passively.

### Key Concepts

* **Left vs. Right Side**: The left side (E, S) relies on **active income**, where you must work to earn. The right side (B, I) relies on **passive income**, where systems and investments generate wealth even when you are not actively working.

* **Mindset Shift**: Kiyosaki argues that moving from the left to the right side requires a shift in mindset, financial literacy, and a willingness to take calculated risks.

* **Financial Freedom**: The ultimate goal of the model is to transition from being an employee or self-employed individual to becoming a business owner and investor, thereby achieving freedom from trading time for money.
